I think that literacy centers for kindergarten can last an entire year, have little to no upkeep and can grow with students, putting them in charge of differentiation, offer choice and be open-ended.

Over the years, my opinions on center management have changed a bit. Have you seen a transformation in your thoughts on this topic, too? When I taught kindergarten, I used both free choice and structured center management, depending on the class and the time of year. While I believe that both free choice and more structured methods work well , I now think that free choice learning centers in preschool are the way to go.
Free choice centers mean students can choose from any available centers. You, the teacher, control which centers are available. In addition to deciding which centers to go to, students are also allowed to determine how much time they spend within each center. For example, one child might stay at the building center the entire center time.
Another child might go to the reading center for 10 minutes, the home center for 30 minutes, and the writing center for the rest of the time. First and foremost, the children are allowed to make their own decisions.
